Argentina, Australia, Chile, New Zealand and South Africa will coordinate rescue tasks of ships which might suffer accidents near Antarctica, informed Jose Retamales, president of the Council of Managers of National Antarctic Programs (COMNAP).
These five nations are the only ones with maritime responsibility in Antarctica and they'll manage and plan rescue operatives, according to a decision of delegates of 28 countries presentment in the yearly COMNAP meeting held recently at Buenos Aires.

A sportsman identified by Chilean Navy as French citizen Fabio Di Pietrantonio (32) fell to the water when his boat capsized, being rescued dead by his expedition mate Williams Odot (37), also a French citizen.
The accident happened apparently due to bad weather conditions. Death had been caused by hypothermia.
Beagle Naval district, responsible for maritime search and rescue, send boat Alacalufe with two divers to give help, with the support of boat Ventisquero which was sailing at the area.

A crate of Scotch whisky was opened today, a century alter being buried under the Antarctic ice, announced New Zealand authorities. After two weeks of a gradually thawed in a purpose built cool room of the Canterbury Museum, a team of Antarctic Heritage Trust and Canterbury Museum conservators extracted several intact bottles labeled "Mackinlay's Rare Old Highland Malt Whisky", belonging to Irish explorer Ernest Shackleton.

As way to unite two Polar influence countries, Norway Embassy in Chile and the Chilean Antarctic Institute (INACH) opened at duty free zone facilities the travelling exhibition "Polar Norway: the white adventure", thought for every public because its contain and format.
The exhibition may be visited until next Saturday, between 10 an 21 hours, continuous timetable. The exhibit has been entrusted by Norway Foreign Office and built by Tromsr University, Norwegian Polar Institute, Tromsr Regional National Archive and Tromsr Polar Museum. Has been in several countries of Europe and America and this year comes from Brazil to Punta Arenas and then to India. |

Girls dancing in the street dressed with bikinis at 2 Celsius degrees below O (28.4 Fahrenheit)?
This winter festive organized by the town council, started the first day of July. Since last year, Mayor Vladimiro Mimica decided that the two usual winters events of the city, the Carnival and the Folklore Festival should become a great winter season festive, adding to these events video movies in neighborhoods, literary gatherings in neighbors clubs, child movies, youth sport competitions, gastronomic shows, book fair, a dip in the Strait of Magellan and, of course the Folklore Festival in Patagonia, where Chilean and Argentinean musicians compete with their songs and the Carnival with its queen. |

As a real contribution to local tourism activity was defined the new Municipal Market building, which has the most up to day facilities in the country, according to Mayor Vladimiro Mimica. The first public activity in the new Market was, for three days, a Gastronomic Fair. The first day was dedicates to representatives of foreign communities and ethnic groups. Victoria Molkenbuhr, director of Cultural Management, remembered last year all the foreign community was invited to the first gastronomic fair, resulting on a success, with over a thousand participants and many which couldn't be a part.

The southern Chilean city of Punta Arenas welcomed winter celebrating the longest night of the year, the first of a month activities for the most typical season of the region, with its streets covered with snow.
The starting activity was a dancing dinner at a downtown hotel, where were introduced six girls a candidates to Queen of the Patagonian Winter Season, a festivity to end starting August.
After that, tee Saint Bernabe run and a schools bands presentation started winter celebrations.
