El gobierno regional de Magallanes y el capítulo regional de la Asociación Chilena de Municipalidades iniciaron un gigantesco esfuerzo de ayuda a damnificados por el terremoto del sábado último, en una campaña denominada “La Patagonia ayuda a Chile”.

Helly Hansen-Prunesco, del Reino Unido, se transformó en el primer equipo en la historia en retener el título del Wenger Patagonian Expedition Race, luego que en la madrugada de este lunes, sus integrantes alcanzaran la meta en las cercanías de Puerto Williams, tras seis días de recorrido sin descanso por los impresionantes parajes de la Patagonia chilena. Los cuatro británicos, quienes en un momento debieron incluso nadar en las frías y torrentosas aguas del río Azopardo, tardaron menos de siete días en completar la que es considerada la carrera más exigente del mundo en su género. La ruta abarcó casi 600 kilómetros de trekking, remo en kayak y mountain bike en las pampas de Tierra del Fuego, la Reserva Karukinka, la Cordillera Darwin y el Canal Beagle, entre otros emblemáticos hitos de esa zona austral.

The Health Secretary authorized the extraction of shellfish at Gente Grande Bay, in Tierra del Fuego, alter checking red tide toxicity is low and products are safe for people consumption.. Recent analysis of several samples of little and big mussels, extracted at Clarencia and Gente Grande Bay areas, by Fishing Service officers together with craft fishermen showed toxicity values include allowed levels and harmless for people consumption. .

The Wenger Patagonian Expedition Race starts today with a with a kayak sailing across the Straits of Magellan and onto Tierra del Fuego, the course will then head south with a mountain bike sections, a challenging opening trekking section across salt lakes then another long mountain bike run down to the south of the island. The long second trekking section, which includes several areas requiring rope work, will then lead down to the Beagle Channel, where teams will take to the water in Kayaks across to the Isla Navarino. From there, they will hike to a summit overlooking the islands towards Cape Horn then head back north to a final mountain biking run to the finish in Puerto Williams.

 Mexican Antonio Rodriguez Cortes, 49 years old, arrived to Punta Arenas traveling on a motorbike from Alaska and with the aim to reach Antarctica. Rodriguez, a native of Federal District, told local newspaper "El Pinguino" he started his travel on a Scooter Elite 125 in Alaska 15 months ago, visiting Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama, where a ship took him to Colombia, going to Ecuador, B Olivia and Chile.
