 The vertebrate paleontological excavation most important done in Chileclosed its 2010 field work with the study of full ichtiosaur baby and acomplete fin of the same specie; a research travel to Grey glacier area,and training to park rangers, said geologist Christian Salazar. For justifying his sayings, Salazar mentions these are the first fossilsfindings of complete vertebrates from the time of dinosaurs. “Before thisonly fragments or bones groups have been found, but never completeindividuals and in such amount, 34 ichtiosaurs up to now”, specified thegeologist from University of Concepcion, who currently is ending itsdoctorate degree at University of Heidelberg.

A protocol visit to the Mayor of Punta Arenas paid naval officers from the Spanish school-ship "Juan Sebastian de Elcano", led by the ship commander, captain Manuel de la Puente Mora-Figueroa. He was accompanied by Spain General Consul Victor Luis Fagilde, honorary consul in Punta Arenas Rodrigo Fernandez and Defense attaché captain Juan Manuel Reyna Munuzurri.

 The United States Navy nuclear supercarrier USS Carl Vinson set sail to USA after a short stay in Punta Arenas bay, on its way back after contributing to the relief effort Operation Unified response after Haiti earthquake. The Vinson provided medical health and used its desalination capacity to provide water to Haiti's population. The carrier has a 5 thousand crew and 60 F-18, exploration, passengers airplanes besides helicopters. It sailed the Strait of Magellan helped by the Chilean Navy, for supplying. |
