 Young students from 8 Chilean regions are gathering for three days to present scientific works on evolution in Antarctica, reviving the thinking of English naturalist Charles Darwin, 175 years after he went past Magallanes. The 6th Antarctic School Fair (FAE in Spanish) whose main topic is “Antarctica and Evolution: discovering the language of life” is being held from November 5th to 7th at the Events Center of Punta Arenas’ Dreams Hotel, while the entire world is celebrating the bicentennial of Darwin’s birth and 150 years of his main work, “The origin of species”.

An international colloquium on climate change will take place in the Region de Magallanes starting today Tuesday 27th. The meeting, “Evidence and challenges for the future” is organized by Universidad de Magallanes and the Chilean Anatarctic Institute. For five days will analyze climate change ending the meeting on Saturday 31st with the Magallanes Declaration.

Antarctic forces of Chile and Argentina armies made a combined rescue exercise at the White Continent, according to bilateral agreements between both institutions.
The purpose was to standardize techniques of rescue on ice and safety procedures while displacing on glaciers, which allows acquiring experience to act in a coordinate efficient and fast way.

At high speed is working the company which is building a new market in Punta Arenas.
“The idea is it should be finished on high tourism season, especially for the international race of next March”, said mayor Vladimiro Mimica on an inspection visit to the construction. However, the building company is sure to finish the market next January, a couple of months before planned.
