National and international scientific community will create a Climate Change Net and Magallanes Biodiversity Research, as a first measure to face the lack of information and knowledge on the effects of climate change in Magallanes and the Antarctic Peninsula, to contribute to the understanding of its socioeconomic consequences on the Region and the planet.

So says “Declaration of Magallanes”, a letter of intent which should create concrete actions for Magallanes and Chilean Antarctic Region to identify and implement long term research. It also raises the need of encourage national and international cooperation and strengthen human capital, besides creating an integrated program on environmental education.

Researchers who took part on climate change colloquium said “climate change it’s not only a menace to ecosystems of the south extreme of South America and Antarctica and the Planet, but also an opportunity to improve relationship between humanity and one of the last pristine areas of the world”.
