 The students who won a trip to Antarctica due to the quality of their scientific projects in VI Antarctic School Fair belong to the cities of Copiapo, Santiago, Concepcion and La Union. The groups who got first and second places in experimental and bibliographic categories besides the prize to Antarctic Spirit, will be part of the 6th School Antarctic Expedition in March of 2010, starting celebration of Chilean Bicentennial in the Frozen Continent.
The first place in experimental category went to “Deciphering co evolution of Nothofagus medical fungus”, from Colegio de la Inmaculada Concepcion (in the picture), a team which included pupils Maria Paz Jaramillo, Mariela Nunez and Macarena Poblete. Their adviser teacher was Rodrigo Reynoso.
The project on bibliographical category was "Pinguinus impennis & Aptenodytes forsteri: a curious development convergent”, from Santiago’s Liceo "Javiera Carrera", a work presented by pupils Ena Gonzalez and Daniela Perez and teacher Roxana Nahuelcura.
At last, the jury and the organizing committee for a consecutive second year, decided to give the Prize to Antarctic Spirit, dedicated to students who remind the spirit of ancient explorers who sheltered the dream of knowing the unknown land, to the work “Penguins and evolution”, from Colegio San Agustin de Atacama, Copiapo, presented by the student Hernan Valencia, together with his teacher Jorge Ramos.
In the Antarctic School Fair 2009 took part 26 scientific projects from 8 regions of the country. The scientific school event is organized by the Chilean Antarctic Institute and the Chilean Air Force, sponsored by the Explora-Conicyt Program. |
