SPANISH CREW COMMEMORATED FOUNDING OF CITY REY DON FELIPE
port_famineWith a ceremony in Port Famine was commemorated 426 years of the foundingof city Rey Don Felipe by Spanish seafarer Pedro Sarmiento de Gamboa.Celebration took place due to the arrival to Punta Arenas of the Spanishschool-ship “Juan Sebastian de Elcano”, which is taking part in the firsttrack of the Bicentennial Sea Race.
The ceremony was organized by Punta Arenas Spanish Society and took partMagallanes deputy Intendenta Gloria Vilicic, Punta Arenas Mayor VladimiroMimica, Commander in Chief of the 3rd Naval Zone rear admiral RafaelGonzalez, commander of the Spanish ship captain Manuel de la Puente, SpainGeneral Consul Victor Luis Fagilde, Honorary Consul of Spain in PuntaArenas Rodrigo Fernandez and Spain Defense attaché captain Juan ManuelReyna.

The act included rising of Chile and Spain flags, placing of a floralarrangement on the dolmen which reminds the place where the Spanishsettlement was established and a speech from Alfredo Barberia, presidentof the Spanish Society and the presentation of a group of bagpipers.
