"It was an important contribution to our effort to get the aim of nature conservation" called National Forest Corporation (CONAF) the cleaning activity at Torres del Paine National Park organized by Ultima Esperanza Tourism Guides Association.

Alejandro Marilican, chief of the Tourism Guide Association led 15 members of his institution and the Local Association of Tourism Guides to the Pehoe area of the park. The aim was to close the season with a service activity at the place in which they intensely work in spring and summer months, cleaning waste scattered by the wind and by disrespectful visitors at Pehoe Center and Campamento Italiano, as well in tracks between both points.

Each season CONAF park rangers withdraw from Campamento Italiano about 50 bags of waste abandoned bay irresponsible tourists which don't respect the regulation to take back the litter created by their visit. However, initiatives like the one of the guides are an important contribution to maintain the area.

The initiative was backed by Torres del Payne municipality with a bus to transport guides, bags, plastic gloves and cleaning elements; Agroindus MacLean company backed the movement of volunteers inside the Park in a charter travel of "Hielos Patagonicos" catamaran and Vertice company gave lodging and food in its Paine Grande shelter.

Michael Arcos, Ultima Esperanza CONAF chief said "guides did a selfless work which we sincerely appreciate. The activity is a valuable reinforcement to the work our park rangers do taking care and protecting the Torres del Paine National Park".
